LYDNEY Town AFC’s Under-18 Lionesses have been crowned Bristol Girls League Division B champions after an outstanding and unbeaten campaign, rounded off with a dominant final-day performance.
The Lionesses sealed the title in emphatic fashion on Sunday morning, thrashing Hengrove 6-0 on the main club pitch. The comprehensive victory provided the perfect end to a season in which the side have consistently set the standard, ultimately finishing seven points clear at the top of the table.
Success has been built on both quality and cohesion, particularly following significant changes last summer. A number of new players joined the squad from Chepstow Garden City, but any concerns over integration were quickly put to rest as the group gelled almost immediately. Their strong team spirit and unity off the pitch translated into confident, cohesive performances on it.
The numbers underline just how impressive the Lionesses have been. They completed the season unbeaten, recording eight wins and two draws, while scoring 40 goals across their league fixtures.
Their attacking threat proved too much for most opponents, while a solid defensive foundation ensured they remained difficult to break down throughout the campaign.
The title represents a major milestone for the club’s youth development pathway and reflects the growing strength of the women’s and girls’ game in Lydney while also providing a platform for the players to continue progressing as they move towards senior football.
While the squad are now enjoying a well-earned celebration, planning is already underway for the next step. The club is looking to build on this success and strengthen the group ahead of the new season.
Coaches are inviting new players aged between 16 and 20 to join summer training, offering the chance to be part of a successful and ambitious side as the Lionesses.
