RUARDEAN United are looking for a new home after wild boar ravaged their pitch last week.
United’s ground at the Miners Recreation Ground near the Townsend area of the village, where Ruardean played back in the 1970s.
Club secretary and manager Alan Williams broke away from Puma FC with friends to form the club in 2010/11, and the newly-formed side went on to win Division Four of the North Gloucestershire League that season.
United now ply their trade in Division Two, but had to postpone their home fixture against Harrow Hill A on Saturday due to the damage done to their ground.
Alan’s mother Jane said it was ’soul destroying’ to see the state of the pitch last weekend.
“They currently play at the Townsend end of the vilalge where I believe Ruardean played back in the 70s,” she said.
“I’m sure Alan won’t blow his own trumpet, but it was just a field when he was first allowed access to it. There were no changing rooms, toilet or water; nothing at all.
“He and his teammates have built it up from scratch only for the boar to access and destroy it. It’s totally soul destroying.
“The public also have access to this field – people walk their dogs and children play in it. I am now concerned for their safety.”
Ruardean United have agreed to play at Worrall Hill until their home ground is fit for purpose.
