NEWENT’S fine season came to an anti-climactic conclusion as they lost at Keynsham in a South West One West match dominated by the home side’s big and well-drilled pack.

Keynsham led after just three minutes when Rich Court crossed by the posts and Sam Challenger added the extras.

After 16 minutes, the lead was doubled as the home forwards got a pushover score from a five-metre scrum and Challenger again converted.

Newent came back as Tommy Devries finished well in the left-hand corner, and Tom Webb struck a superb conversion from the touchline to make it 14-7.
