MITCHELDEAN Ladies are a win away from a historic county cup final.
Mitcheldean have earned a spot in the final four of this year’s GFA Women’s Challenge Cup having reached the semi-final stage of last year’s competition without playing a game.
A number of walkovers led to Mitcheldean taking on eventual champions Frampton Rangers and losing 3-0 at home.
The Forest side have never reached a cup final but could make history this season by becoming the first women’s side from the Dean to lift a county cup trophy.
Mitch defeated hosts Gloucester City 3-1 in their quarter final on Sunday, with goals from Maz Davis-Hyde, Emma Williams and Jade Powell.
Davis-Hyde and defender Sam Greenman were awarded joint player of the match after a near-faultless performance from both.
The win followed a 5-3 first round victory over Forest Green Rovers Development and Mitcheldean will travel to Bradley Stoke on Sunday March 18 to vie for a spot in the final.
The winners will take on either Longwell Green or Cotswold Rangers.
Mitcheldean are fighting for trophies on two fronts, with Women’s County League Division Two leaders Longwell Green within their sights.
They sit second, just three points behind the Bristol side, with a crunch match at the table-toppers on Sunday March 11.
