LYDNEY Town boss Mark Lee says his side have adapted to life in the Hellenic Premier Division quicker than he expected.
Lydney are 13th in the league after 12 games, having been promoted as the third team from the Division One West in the summer.
And after a shaky start that saw his side pick up four points from their first five games, Lee is pleased with the club’s current position.
Town won 3-1 at Brackley Town Saints in the Hellenic Floodlit Cup Second Round last Wednesday, thanks to goals from Kristian Burnard, Jarred Liddington and Pete Macklin.
They then travelling back home for a 2-2 draw against Thame United in the league.
“It was a good win at Brackley,” Lee said.
“They caused us a few problems in the first 20 minutes with their formation and we went behind.
“They came out with 4-2-3-1 and were rolling the ball out from the keeper but once we adapted to that and cut out them playing from the back we were comfortable.
“I was pleased with how disciplined we were to change our formation and stick to it for the remainder of the game.
“We were poor against Thame on Saturday. We just didn’t start well and there were missed passes and a lack of concentration.
“We were a goal down at half-time so 15 minutes in we made a triple substitution and change in formation again which helped.
“Rich Kear came off the bench and scored a penalty before getting another just after that so I was pleased to come back having been behind.
“We’ve adapted quicker to the league than I thought we would do.
“After 12 games, yeah I’m pleased with where we’re at.
“We’ve set a target of 40 points and once we reach that we should have done enough to stay in the league.
“I don’t think we’ll go down and we’re not going to win it, so that’s the aim.
“A good cup run would be a nice distraction and it would be good to right the wrongs of the cup final from last year.”
