LYDBROOK Athletic’s quest for progress continues to be blighted, with managers Martin Reid and Paul Williams both leaving the Northern Senior Two strugglers.

Lydbrook’s first team are currently third from bottom after being relegated last year, despite setting a three-year plan to earn a place in the County League.

They have won just one game from 13 – a 2-1 away win at Woolaston, who sit a place above them.

But Athletic are seven points adrift of Wooly, who also have two games in hand.

Their reserves are in even worse shape, dropping to the bottom of the North Gloucestershire League Premier Division, having lost all eight league fixtures.

And the club’s third side, Lydbrook A, are just about staying afloat in Division Two with six points from as many games.

Third team manager Justin Tapfield has even gone as far to try and set up an unofficial ’loan’ system with Mitcheldean, who have 48 players signed on for their two sides in the North Glos Premier and Division Three.

Mitcheldean agreed to the idea, but Tapfield said there was a lack of interest from players who have been unable to break into the club’s two teams.

Williams, who joined Lydbrook to help Reid having worked together on the Forest Select XI exhibition side, has also left the Reeds Ground club.

Chairman Andy Clements has taken the helm in charge of the first team as an interim measure.

A club statement on their website read: “It is with regret that Martin Reid and Paul Williams have resigned from the club as first team managers.

“We would like to thank them in what they had tried to achieve for our club and wish them the best for the future.

“In the interim, Andy Clements, the Chairman, has taken on the role until the club can find a new manager.”

Anyone interested in the role should contact Clements.
