CINDERFORD Town were knocked out of the FA Cup on Saturday after a woeful opening which saw them two goals down in the opening 10 minutes.

A strong showing in the second half was not enough to overcome Wessex League side Laverstock and Ford in the first qualifying round of the competition.

Town pressed for the rest of the half, forcing a number of corners but could not make the breakthrough, while their lower league opponents looked dangerous on the break.

The Southern League side had some early opportunities after the break and it was Ben Brooks who reduced the deficit to a single goal.

That spurred on the visitors who then restored their two goal lead.

The game was set for an tense finale when Mike Symons was brought down in the area.

Brooks smashed home the spot kick but despite piling on the pressure, Town could not find the goal that would have forced a replay in Wiltshire.

Cinderford’s next game is a week on Saturday (September 17) when they travel to Lymington who lost their opening four games.
