PARKEND batsmen Ryan Burris and Tim Andrew broke a club record with an incredible opening stand in their Verderers Cup Midweek League win against Alvington & Woolaston.

Burris and Andrew made 243 not out in the Twenty20 clash, with Burris scoring 107 runs and Andrew making 112.

Between them, the batting duo hit 35 boundaries, as Burris scored 10 fours and seven sixes.

Andrew also scored seven sixes but added an extra four to stun opponents, clubmates and onlookers alike in the 151-run victory.

Andrew then caught Alvington & Woolaston captain and opener Gavin Thurston for 30 runs to cap off an incredible evening.

Tom Adams scored 41 runs for Alvington & Woolaston but the nine-men visitors were all out for 92 in 13.3 overs.

“It was pretty unbelievable really,” said team captain Scott Ayres.

“It’s not what you expect on a Wednesday!

“Our score in that game beat the previous highest midweek total by about 60 runs so that’s impressive in itself.

“We’ve had a good season so far but even so it was incredible, and to then win by over 150 runs is amazing.

“The aim is to win the trophy, but it’s going to be tough. We’ve still got to go to Cinderford St John and we have Ruardean Hill at home.

“Obviously the top four go into the semi-finals but we’re top of the table at the moment and I’m confident we’ll get to the final.

“The lads are confident at the moment and I’ve played for Parkend for 12 years and this is the best team spirit – throughout the club – I’ve ever known.”
