CORSE & Staunton delivered a commanding all-round display as they defeated Stroud by nine wickets to claim maximum points in the West of England Premier Cricket League Gloucestershire division on Saturday.
After producing a disciplined bowling performance to dismiss the visitors for 155 in 36.2 overs, the hosts made light work of the chase, reaching 156-1 in only 21.3 overs thanks to an outstanding unbeaten partnership between James Dallaway and Matthew Cox.
The comprehensive victory earned Corse & Staunton 20 league points and highlighted the balance within the side, with every stage of the match controlled by the home team after Stroud elected to bat first.
The visitors made a steady enough start before Harrison Tegg provided the breakthrough, catching and bowling Don Spanner for five to put the hosts firmly on top.
Edward Goolden soon removed Lewis Culver for 12 before Tegg trapped Liam Smith leg before wicket, leaving Stroud struggling at 33-3 and under immediate pressure.
Jimmy Twemlow attempted to rebuild the innings with a brisk 20, striking two fours and a six, but he became one of two wickets claimed by Tristan Maree as Corse & Staunton refused to allow any meaningful recovery.
James Dallaway also got among the wickets, taking a return catch to dismiss Dan Lambert, while Matt Brown wrapped up the lower order with two important scalps late in the innings.
Nimesh Ilukwatte top scored with 26 and Angus Gegg added 23 as Stroud recovered from 93-7 to post 155, although the innings was heavily boosted by 56 extras, including 30 wides.
Goolden finished with figures of 2-27 from nine overs, while Tegg also claimed two wickets after another impressive spell.
Maree's return of 2-13 from five overs proved equally important, Brown finished with 2-24 and Dallaway added 1-16, while a run out completed the innings.
Despite the generous extras, Corse & Staunton remained in complete control throughout and never allowed the visitors to build sustained momentum.
Chasing 156 for victory, the hosts lost Goolden for eight after he was caught off the bowling of Culver with only 19 runs on the board.
From that point onwards it was one-way traffic.
Dallaway and Cox combined brilliantly to produce an unbeaten second-wicket partnership worth 137 that carried Corse & Staunton comfortably across the line.
Dallaway anchored the chase superbly with an unbeaten 61 from 72 deliveries, striking eight boundaries and two sixes in a composed innings that balanced patience with positive strokeplay.
Cox provided the acceleration, finishing unbeaten on 64 from just 50 balls after hitting 11 fours and a six in an attacking knock that never allowed Stroud's bowlers to settle.
The pair rotated the strike intelligently, punished anything loose and ensured the required run rate was never an issue.
Corse & Staunton reached their target with more than 28 overs remaining, completing one of their most convincing victories of the campaign.
The result continued the hosts' positive form and demonstrated the strength of a side capable of producing disciplined bowling performances before backing them up with confident, aggressive batting when it mattered most.
Corse & Staunton's victory keeps them firmly in the hunt at the top of the WEPL Gloucestershire division. They sit second in the table on 154 points from 10 matches, trailing leaders Bourton Vale by 48 points but with a game in hand.
