Tynedale 36
Cinderford 30
CINDERFORD surrendered their unbeaten record after their long journey north.
At least they had the consolation of two bonus points after Tynedale, who had tackled themselves into the ground, ran out of replacements and were forced to play the final 15 minutes with 14 men. Cinderford took full advantage with three late tries.
Playing into a strong wind the visitors opened the scoring when Ben West dived over for an unconverted try.
Tynedale replied with a try from Alan Rogers – despite having number eight Ollie Steadman in the sin-bin for some reckless play in the loose.
Cinderford struck back when some terrific handling created the opportunity for winger Lloyd Stapleton to score in the corner.
Some sloppy play from Cinderford let the hosts build up a a healthy 26-10 lead by the interval.
After winning a scrum against the head skipper Jack Harrison streaked away to score, with fly-half George Cullen converting on a difficult day for kickers.
Full-back Peter Moralee and flanker Sam Reynolds followed up with further tries, both converted by Cullen.
With conditions in their favour Mark Davies kicked a penalty to reduce the deficit 10 minutes into the second half, but Cinderford continued to turn over ball in contact and miss far too many tackles.
Tynedale took advantage with tries from Peter Cole and a second for Moralee and the game looked in the bag at 36-13 with 10 minutes to go.
When centre Rob Winchle touched down it looked no more than a consolation score for Cinderford, but the home side tired badly in the closing stages and ultimately ran out of players as Reynolds left the field with no one to replace him.
Touchdowns from Sam Arnott and George Evans brought Cinderford within striking distance to give them some reward for their efforts.
