AFTER a seven-year absence, Cinderford driver Jason Lamb stormed back into motorsport with a 20th place finish in the Isle of Man Classic TT.
Lamb competed on the famous Mountain Course circuit on his Honda CB350 K4 during the classic event, while using a Yamaha R6 in the Manx Grand Prix Junior Race.
“It was a huge difference between the two bikes, not only in outright speed but riding style too,” he said.
“I struggled with the set up on the Yamaha as it was only the second time I had ridden it. But I eventually got to grips with the R6 in the race and achieved an average lap speed of 105mph and finished 57th having started 82 on the Grid."
Having started 64th on the grid, the classic event provided a much bigger success, and will be where Lamb concentrates his efforts in the future.
“The 350 Race is not only about speed but keeping it going and reliability. There were a lot of breakdowns and I was happy to have finished on an engine I had built myself in my shed.
“During the race I had fuelling problems and a cracked exhaust but I just kept going!
“I love riding the classic bikes and the challenge associated with not only a good final result but building a strong, reliable bike.”
Lamb’s wife Jenny was also a major help in the race, performing his pit stop on her own, which he said ‘went like clockwork’.
