Cinderford 29
Llandovery 38
WELSH Premiership outfit Llandovery proved too strong for Cinderford in this opening trial match at Dockham Road.
The home side conceded six tries, but scored four of their own. One of the positives for Cinderford was the way they finished the match strongly.
Llandovery went ahead when prop Dean Howells crashed over, with Cerith Rees adding the conversion.
Mark Davies landed a penalty for Cinderford before their opponents scored again through hooker Adam Yelland, with Rees again adding the conversion.
A quickly taken penalty created the space for home centre Sheldon Stevens to go through for a try under the posts, which Davies converted to make it 10-14.
The second session saw Cinderford introduce all of their 30-man squad. They briefly took the lead when Kyle Frowen forced his way over for a try.
Back came Llandovery and Matthew Jacobs sprinted clear to touch down for an unconverted effort. James Garland then scored and converted his own try to put his side 26-15 up at the end of the session.
Both sides made numerous changes for the third period and the visitors stretched their lead with further tries from Garland, which he converted, and Chris Knight.
It was Cinderford who ended the match on top, however, and they got their due rewards when centre Dewi Scourfield juggled with the ball but managed to control it to score near the posts.
From the final play, Jack Adams crossed for a well-taken effort. Both tries were converted by Mark Davies.
This Saturday, August 18, Cinderford host Bridgend (2.30pm).
On Saturday August 25, they play a home double header with Old Patesians (1pm) and Hartpury College (3pm).
