FOREST of Dean Athletics Club’s Helen Brown finished fourth in category at the Malvern Cross Country event on Halloween – the highlight of a strong showing by Dean runners.

Brown achieved her place in the senior ladies race at the event held by Malvern Joggers. Peter Woodward came 16th in the senior men’s competition, while John Hamilton was seventh in the MU17 category.

The teams also put in some sterling performances to give the men’s seniors seventh, whilst the men’s masters were fifth.

In the ladies teams, the seniors were tenth and the asters fourth. The juniors teams fared even better with a third-place finish for the MU13, eighth for the LU13 team and yet again the top team were the LU11’s, where the girls were second and seventh.

• A PAIR of Forest athletes tackled the Hereford City 10k on Sunday, as the two M60s, Alan Robertson and Chris Moore performed admirably along the River Wye.

Robertson finished ninth in 44.35, while Moore was 20th.

• WHILE on holiday in Frankfurt, the Francis family took part in the Mainova Mini Marathon. Cameron Francis and sister Maddie tackled the 4.2k course in 18.32 and 20.47 respectively.

• JULIAN Boon took on one of the toughest-rated marathons in Europe, finishing the Snowdonia Marathon in 3.28 last week.

Boon tackled some tough elevations on a course made up of a mix of trail and tarmac. The track encircles Snowdon, starting at Llanberis via Beddgelert and Waunfawr and returning to Llanberis.

• FOUR Forest runners took part in the inaugural Bristol Bath Marathon last weekend, starting in the heart of Bristol near the SS Great Britain through the countryside to Bath.

Frank Williams (3.25.52), Sue Shergold (3.53.30) and Helen Lipscomb (3.54.01) all broke the four-hour mark, while Kate Burke also finished well in 4.25.32.

• A TEAM of ‘Forest Divas’ tackled the famed Great South Run in Portsmouth and Southsea – a scenic route that takes in the island city’s historic docks as well as the coastline out to the Isle of Wight.

Rachel Nash (1.23.56), Claire Morgan (1.29.31), Vanessa Pegler (1.36.49), Karen Barnett (1.38.35), Bev James (1.38.53), Sharla Fleet (1.41.44), Jo Babij (1.41.45), Sheralyn Turner (1.55.25) and Claire Lavender (1.59.31) all posted good times.

• ANDREW Kaye was the sole Forest runner in the Stroud Half Marathon, finishing in a fast 1.37.12.
