Lydney 17
COACH Duncan Bell says he is fed up of giving his side a half-time 'rollocking'.
And he cannot understand how they can be so poor one half, and outstanding the next.
"It is becoming very frustrating," he said.
"We looked like two completely different teams on Saturday.
"In the first half we couldn't do anything at all, our ball was slow and we were our own worst enemies.
"In the second half we were fantastic.
"Playing uphill into a strong wind, we didn't let Chinnor out of their half – save from a brilliant breakaway try they scored."
It was a much changed Lydney team that took to the field.
Josh Hannam, Jim McMahon, Tony Wicks and Jake Fields were all injured or unavailable, Tim Longton pulled out on the morning of the match with a dead leg and Dave Bennett only arrived in time for the second half because he had to work on Saturday morning.
It resulted in a disjointed display in which Chinnor pressurised the Lydney ruck and stopped them from playing.
The home side scored four first half tries for a cosy 22-7 lead.
Lydney's touchdown came from flanker Ben Taylor, who broke from a ruck to score. Danny Trigg converted.
Play was interrupted for several minutes when Ben Lewis received a knock to the head, but he was able to carry on.
Lydney got their act together after the break and took the game to their opponents.
Alex Hall and Charlie Daniell grabbed unconverted tries, but a length-of-the-field effort from Sam Stoop gave the home side enough breathing space. With both Southend and Taunton winning this week, this defeat plunges Lydney back into the bottom three.
Coach Bell added: "There were positives – Sam Thompson made his first start at this level after a crash course in the line-out and played very well.
"However, I was talking to Danny Trigg after the game and he told me he has never been in front at half-time since he joined us.
"That's our problem, we are always having to chase games.
"I know the boys can do it but the consistency isn't there."
