Last week, it was great to be joined by Ted and Aleksia and to gain insight into what young people care about and the future they want to see.
Throughout the week, students working alongside me and my team get a taste of what it is like to work in an MP's office. From researching policy and supporting constituency casework to understanding Parliament, meeting local businesses, charities and organisations, and navigating communications and breaking news.
Every young person who has joined my team has taken this in their stride, and I am continually reminded of the incredible young talent we have here in the Forest of Dean.
A key part of the work experience is providing the opportunity to research and present a topic, concern or issue that matters to them. Ted and Aleksia spoke to me about issues close to their hearts, and I look forward to continuing to work with them to ensure their voices form part of local and national conversations.
Following the success of my Mock Parliament programme earlier this year, interest in work experience has increased significantly.
I would encourage any young person in my constituency who is interested in politics, democracy, or making a difference in their community to contact my office at [email protected] to discuss the opportunities available.
I was recently honoured to attend the opening of Hollie's at Bridge Training Ltd in Gloucester, a new training salon that will ensure Hollie Gazzard's legacy continues to make a real difference to the lives of young people.
This partnership between the Hollie Gazzard Trust and Bridge Training Ltd will provide young people with first-class hair and beauty training while also equipping them with the knowledge to recognise the signs of abusive behaviour, promote healthy relationships and respond confidently when someone may need support. This will be a great opportunity for young people in the Forest of Dean to take advantage of, too.
From September, the next generation of hair and beauty professionals will begin training under Hollie's name, ensuring her legacy continues to inspire, protect and empower young people for years to come. It is a fantastic achievement, and a great opportunity for young people in the Forest of Dean to take advantage of.
Finally, I want to reassure you that I am continuing to work hard to minimise the significant disruption caused by the A40 Over Bridge works. I know how frustrated people are feeling—I share those frustrations.
I remain in regular contact with National Highways and Gloucestershire Highways, putting forward your experiences, concerns and suggestions while pressing for practical measures to reduce the impact on those who rely on this vital route. I know we all want to see immediate improvements, and I will continue to convey that urgency and hold those stakeholders to account.
