WHEN Forest of Dean District Council arbitrarily introduced car parking charges, one of their arguments was that the revenue raised would contribute towards the maintenance of them.

Then, winter struck. But wait, will the council, with their newly acquired wealth, be round to clear the car parks? Thought not.

We were left to cope the best we could in ice-packed, dangerous car parks.

Indeed, I would not have been at all surprised that if anyone had been unlucky enough to have got stuck and overrun their time limit, they would have been given a ticket.
