CINDERFORD Town's amazing cup form continued with a 1-0 win at Atherstone Town in the First Round of the Red Insure Southern League Cup on Tuesday night.
Despite resting the likes of Tom Billing, Dale Evans, Nick Hancock, Lewis Sommers and Nick McCootie, Cinderford edged the tie with a 37th minute goal from Lee O'Connor.
The skilful midfielder did well to control a bobbling Sam O'Sullivan cross, then find the net with a smart finish.
It was a tight game on a heavy surface.
Cinderford lost Simon Heal to a calf strain on 30 minutes and Greg Lewis was also replaced at half-time because of a sore shin.
Warren Archer had another fine match in defence, but Town's man of the match was midfielder Jamie Powell, now growing in stature as a Southern League player.
Town are in FA Trophy action this Sunday away at Isthmian League outfit Grays Athletic, who are managed by former Liverpool and West Ham defender Julian Dicks. They'll be without Warren Archer who is suspended. Archer faces a further six week lay-off once he has had an operation on his recently broken nose.
