A MAN from Coleford is fighting for his life after a head-on crash near Cannop Crossroads.
Mine workers from Hopewell Colliery and drivers who came across the scene rushed out with fire extinguishers when the grey Renault Clio caught fire with the driver lying unconscious inside.
The 25-year-old had been travelling downhill on the B4226 past the colliery at around 10.15am yesterday when his car was in collision with a white LDV Convoy van coming in the opposite direction.
The force of the crash completely crushed the front of the Clio and left it halfway up a steep bank and at a right angle to the road.
The driver was left with a serious head injury, a suspected broken pelvis and a fractured leg. His injuries are said to be life-threatening.
