SIXTY-THREE Newent farm workers are facing eviction after a planning appeal was dismissed, last week.
Jacob Van der Lely, the owner of Sandyway Nurseries on Redmarley Road, appealed an enforcement order by the Forest of Dean District Council last year.
The glasshouses site has 23 mobile homes which provide residence for seasonal workers.
However the majority of these workers are employed at Haygrove Fruit Ltd and Trioscape Nurseries and other businesses. The Inspector, Hilda Higenbottam, said that the need for 23 mobile homes had not been demonstrated to be essential for the functioning of those businesses such as to outweigh the harm to the countryside.
