SEVEN tries from Chris Holder, Josh Hannam, Charlie Vine, Craig Jones, Nick Stoneman, James Bashford and Matt Taylor gave Lydney a comfortable win at bottom club Newbury.
Charlie Vine, making his 300th appearance for the Severnsiders, captained the side in the absence of Will Jones, who is in Australia. It was the first time Vine has captained the club.
Matt Taylor switched to openside flanker to fill in for Jones.
Tony Wicks added three conversions, a penalty and a drop-goal for Lydney, with Brett Turner kicking a single conversion.
Newbury put up a gutsy first-half fight, inspired by new signing, number eight Joe Kava. They only trailed 24-18 at the break.
Lydney made an excellent start to the match with Matt Taylor diving over in the second minute. Brett Turner converted.
Newbury belied their league position by storming back with two tries through the impressive Kava and Iain Herriot.
Clarke converted both and also slotted a penalty to give his side a 15-7 advantage.
Chris Holder's touchdown cut the deficit, but Lydney suffered another major blow when Brett Turner left the field with a leg injury. Turner's standing foot gave way while he was taking a kick. He was replaced by Dougie Freeman on 28 minutes.
Clarke kicked a second penalty for Newbury, but Lydney regained the upper hand with two tries in the last five minutes of the first-half, courtesy of Josh Hannam and Craig Jones.
