FOOTBALL bad boy Leon Jeanne will be all good for Cinderford Town, according to boss Paul Weeks.

Jeanne (pictured) has joined Cinderford on loan from Bath City, but it was at QPR and Cardiff City where he gained his bad boy reputation.

In his checkered past he was involved in drink and drugs scandals, but Weeks says Jeanne has grown up and can't get up to any mischief at The Causeway.

Weeks told The Forester: "I know he's got a terrible reputation but he can't cause much damage at our club.

"People make mistakes in life and he had a difficult upbringing. At our level he's going to score goals and I'm happy we can attract an ex-QPR player."

The 30-year-old Welsh under-21s international began his pro career with Arsenal before signing for QPR at 17. He made his full debut for Rangers against Watford in 1999.

He left QPR in 2001 on a free transfer after making 12 first-team starts, to sign for his hometown club, Cardiff City.

Just a few weeks after joining Cardiff he tested positive for a class A drug and was handed a two-year suspended sentence by the Football Association of Wales. In May 2002 he was selected for random drugs testing, but the results came back to show that the sample he had submitted was not urine.

He refused to provide a second sample which led to Cardiff terminating his contract.

After his release from Cardiff, he attempted a comeback with Havant & Waterlooville in a pre-season friendly against League of Wales side Barry Town, but was withdrawn from playing after officials at Barry questioned if he was allowed to play.

He resumed playing a short while later and enjoyed a prosperous spell at Port Talbot Town but yet again was involved in a scandal.

In September 2002 he was arrested, along with two other men, on suspicion of dealing class A drugs.

During the court case he revealed that he used to be addicted to cocaine. Eventually he and the other two men were cleared of all charges.

After the case ended he returned to football with Newport County followed by spells at Dinas Powys, Barry Town and Maesteg Park.

More recently, he's played for the likes of Weston-super-Mare and Bath.

Weeks watched Jeanne train on Saturday following the postponement of the Thatcham game.

He said: "Leon's a very technical player with lots of ability, but he probably needs to lose half-a-stone and get more minutes under his belt."

Weeks confirmed that despite signing Jeanne, he wants to bring another striker, Max Etheridge, to the club.

"People say we've got a big squad but we need numbers and Tom Billing is suspended," he added.
