YOUNG people across the Forest of Dean who are not currently in education, employment, or training are being encouraged to take part in a free week-long programme designed to help them gain practical life and employability skills.
The Life Skills Forum, organised by the Gloucestershire Employment and Skills Hub, will take place at The Main Place in Coleford from Tuesday, November 11 to Friday, November 14.
There is also an optional induction session on Monday, November 10, allowing participants to meet the team, ask questions, and get an idea of what the workshops will involve before committing to the full programme.
The workshops aim to give young people the tools they need to improve their chances in the workplace and develop skills for independent living.
Attendees will take part in activities that can enhance their CVs, build confidence, and provide hands-on experience in areas such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. The sessions are also a chance to meet other young people in the Forest in a friendly, supportive environment.
Each day runs from 10am to 2.30pm, including a lunch break, and is designed to be relaxed and welcoming, catering to a range of interests and abilities. The programme organisers emphasise that the forum is not just about work skills.
Local business owners and community leaders say initiatives like this are vital for the Forest, where opportunities for young people can sometimes be limited.
They highlight how gaining practical skills, building confidence, and making local connections can make a real difference for individuals and the wider community.
For anyone interested, the organisers encourage early sign-up, as spaces are limited.
This forum forms part of a wider effort across Gloucestershire to provide support and guidance for young people not currently engaged in education, employment, or training.
