TOURISM bosses are urging Forest residents to take part in a poll to name Britain’s best loved woodland.
The Forest of Dean has been short listed as one of the top ten woodlands in LandLove Magazine’s annual awards.
The winner will be selected by a public vote, and Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Tourism is calling for everyone in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Monmouthshire to go online and vote for the ancient woodland.
The area is described by LandLove Magazine as “an ancient land at its best in autumn when its majestic trees turn a shade of gold”.
The judges highlighted how the Forest of Dean is a destination that visitors flock to:
In the spring for the stunning bluebells.
In the summer for walks amongst the trees, mountain bike riding, canoeing and exciting attractions.
In the winter it’s a frosty wonderland with welcoming pubs warmed by open fires and fine food.
Maureen McAllister, executive director of Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Tourism, said: “The Forest of Dean is the UK’s best kept tourism secret.
“We have a thousand years of history and heritage that appeal to all ages.
“This is an amazing opportunity to put us on the map and tell the UK what a glorious place it is to experience. Please join team #deanwye."
If you’re in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Monmouthshire, and love the area as much as we do, then go online and vote for the Forest of Dean.
The Forest of Dean is packed with stunning landscapes, ancient monuments, and unique geological formations that have inspired storytellers for thousands of years.
It’s a natural stage for TV shows like Dr Who and movies such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens.”
Together our Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is home to thrilling tales of fantastic figures and mythical creatures, as well as legends and historical figures such as Henry V, inspiring authors including J R R Tolkien and JK Rowling.
Votes can be cast at www.landlove.com/awards and as an incentive all voters will be entered in to LandLove Magazine’s prize draw to win a short break for up to four people.
Winners will be announced in the March issue of LandLove Magazine.
