A MEMORIAL event held at English Bicknor Hall raised nearly £1,800 to help a local mental health support group with its vital work.

Dan’s Day, an annual event which memorialises The Forest of Dean’s Daniel Brough took place on Saturday, August 15.

The day saw the Daniel Brough Memorial Trophy match, a raffle with prizes donated by local businesses and individuals, a family stall, refreshments, and evening music by DJ Curtis James.

A total of £1,791.81 was raised and donated to Mons Chatter, a Forest of Dean community support group which focuses on men’s mental health. The cheque was presented by members of Daniel's family to members of the Mons Chatter on Monday, August 24. Dot Vokins and Mark Gabriel accepted the donation on behalf of the group.

Jordan Childs, Daniel’s sister and one of the organisers of the event said: “Dan’s Day means so much to us as a family and knowing that the event, held in memory of Dan, is helping to support such an important cause in the Forest of Dean makes it even more special.”

Members of the Mons Chatter group supported the day in helping with the setting up of the event, along with many others who took time to donate raffle prizes, sell raffle tickets, play in the football match and help behind the scenes.

Organisers thanked all those who helped in the fundraising efforts for the Memorial Day, making it a huge success.

A representative from Mons Chatter emphasised the need for a men's mental health group, where men can come and chat in the Forest of Dean, and welcomed new members to join.

They added that the extremely kind donation will be used to advertise the work being done by the group, and provide further information on how it works to the wider community.
