A 51-year-old man who assaulted a Lydney policeman earlier this year has been fined £100 by Cheltenham Magistrates.

Daniel Gwilym, currently residing at Hewell Prison in Redditch, pleaded guilty to assaulting the constable in Lydney on 13th February this year while the officer was involved in the execution of his duty.

As well as the fine, the magistrates ordered Gwilym to pay costs of £85.

The court said “The offence was aggravated by being committed against a person providing a public service, performing a public duty or providing services to the public.”

The magistrates added that they had not ordered Gwilym to pay any compensation to the officer because no loss or damage was caused by the assault.
