A SERIES of short‑term road closures will affect communities across the Forest of Dean this August and early September, as Gloucestershire County Council confirms multiple maintenance schemes ranging from level‑crossing works to drainage repairs and utility upgrades.

The first disruption will take place on Naas Lane in Lydney, where a 500‑metre stretch south of the A48 junction will shut overnight for essential level‑crossing maintenance.

The closure will run from 23:55 on August 17 to 6am on August 18, with pedestrian and emergency access preserved throughout. The council notes that, if required, the legal order may remain active for up to eighteen months.

In Hewelsfield and Brockweir, Belmont Road will close for Severn Trent Water works between 8am on August 17 and 6pm on August 19. The affected 70‑metre section runs from Brockweir Road to the property known as Ingleside. Access for pedestrians and emergency services will continue, with diversions signed on site.

Woolaston residents will see a longer stretch impacted as Woolaston Common undergoes drainage works from 17–20 August. A 500‑metre section between Brooklet Road and Sandytumps will be subject to both closure and strict traffic restrictions, including a full prohibition on waiting, stopping, loading and unloading.

In Newland parish, a short 50‑metre section of The Rocks will shut for sewer repairs from 1–3 September, affecting the area between Old House and Jornary Cottage. As with other schemes, pedestrian and emergency access will remain available.

Lydney will face further disruption on C15 Lydney Road, where Openreach will carry out poling works on September 1, closing a 100‑metre stretch between Soilwell Manor and Old Dam Road from 9am to 5pm.

The following day, Joyford Hill in West Dean will close for pole‑replacement works. The 30‑metre section between Lealands and Leyland House will be shut from 9am to 5pm on September 2.

Finally, a major utility project by Wales and West Utilities will close a 450‑metre stretch of Buckshaft Road, Ruspidge and Soudley, from 1–8 September. The closure runs from Hudsons Lane to No.54A Buckshaft Road.
