Stourbridge 30

A DRAMATIC last-gasp try from Nev Codlin sent Cinderford's biggest crowd of the season home happy.

The hosts scored five tries in the match but still found themselves 10 points behind with only 10 minutes to play.

Cinderford made a dream start when the ball was moved through several pairs of hands to Codlin, who played in the supporting Mike Wilcox for a second minute try that went unconverted.

Former Cinderford stand-off Mark Woodrow nudged Stourbridge in front with a couple of penalties, but Cinderford regained the lead on 23 minutes with an unconverted try from centre Kai Done.

It was 13-13 at the break. Rory Teague, struggling with the boot, finally landed a penalty but a Sam Robinson try, converted by Woodrow, kept Stourbridge firmly in the hunt.

Stourbridge bagged their second try three minutes into the second period when Wordley went over.

Cinderford responded with a touchdown from hooker Tom Bozzard following a catch and drive. Teague's conversion made it 20-20.

Stourbridge got on top of this scrappy but entertaining match with Woodrow's accurate kicking a factor. He converted a Gary Dipple try, then opened up a 10 points gap with a penalty. On 71 minutes Codlin sprinted clear to score and keep his side alive, Teague adding the extras.

Stourbridge were forced to cling on for their lives in the closing minutes as Cinderford created attack after attack. It looked like it was going to be another frustrating afternoon for Andy Deacon's side, but with time up on the clock Codlin ran straight at last man Woodrow, who could not bring him down before the line.
