A GROUP of businesses has been recognised for helping transform a community hub supporting young people in Newent.

Trustees from the Newent Initiative welcomed representatives from Aqua Construction, Mark Lee Decorating Ltd, SBL Carpentry Ltd, MKM Newent and HCR Law to a thank-you afternoon tea at the Chill Out Youth and Community Café on Broad Street.

The event celebrated the firms' contributions to improving the charity's facilities and supporting the young people who use the centre.

Earlier this year, Aqua Construction, with support from Mark Lee Decorating Ltd and SBL Carpentry Ltd, carried out urgent repairs and repainted the front of the building. MKM Newent donated all the materials needed for the work.

A spokesperson for the Newent Initiative said the improvements had transformed the appearance of the centre, helping to ensure it remained a welcoming and safe place for local young people.

HCR Law has also supported the charity through fundraising and volunteering. Staff organised a silent auction, with proceeds donated to the Chill Out project, while also helping refurbish the interior of the building. The firm also donated Easter eggs, carpets and outdoor furniture.

The spokesperson said HCR's support had created lasting improvements that would benefit the charity for years to come.

Trustees said the afternoon tea was a chance to personally thank the organisations for their generosity and community spirit.

They added: "Their support has made a real and lasting difference to the Chill Out Youth and Community Café and, most importantly, to the young people who use our services.

"Partnerships like these demonstrate the strength of our local community and what can be achieved when businesses work together to support local charities."

The Newent Initiative continues to rely on grants, volunteers and business support to run the centre. Trustees are now focusing on plans for a new skate park and pump track, with £92,000 in developer contributions already earmarked towards the project.
