WILD boar have destroyed the ground at one of the area's most popular landmarks, the Pan Tod Beacon on Ruardean Hill.

A large area of grass near the miners' memorial has been rooted up.

The site is commonly used for the scattering of ashes.

Maurice Bent, chairman of the Friends of Pan Tod, said: "It's getting dangerous for people to walk up to the memorial.

"We're very proud of this area and there are a group of people who work hard up here."

The incident came just days after another boar turned up on the doorstep of a Cinderford pensioner.

Cath Barnfield was preparing for the worst when she heard a loud noise coming from her porch late at night.

Thinking she may be about to be burgled, she was shocked to see a wild boar 'as big as a donkey' staring back at her.

The boar caused damage to the lawned areas at the Willowdene sheltered accommodation Cath lives in.
