Cinderford Town 6

Stourport Swifts 0

MAYBE it was the signing of a new striker before the game, or perhaps the stern words of manager Steve Peters were still ringing in their ears following the midweek defeat in Poole.

Whatever it was, Cinderford finally found their goal-scoring touch to condemn struggling Stourport to a heavy defeat.

Cinderford named new signing Will Loughman on the bench. Loughman played for the Foresters in pre-season but opted to join Cirencester Town instead. With opportunities at the Corinium Stadium limited, he has now returned to The Causeway.

In truth, Stourport were a poor side but Cinderford showed them little mercy.

Lewis Sommers opened the scoring inside nine minutes, latching onto a long ball and slamming a shot past Whitcombe.

Two minutes later, a terrible mix-up in the Stourport defence allowed McCootie to walk the ball into an empty net.

Cinderford went 3-0 up two minutes after the restart. Dean Lee's cross was only partially cleared and Sommers pounced for his second goal.

The big striker completed his hat-trick just past the hour mark with a fine finish from a McCootie pass.

Sub Mike Whittington boosted his confidence with the final two goals. He made the most of a poor clearance kick from the visiting keeper, then found the net again from a perfect cross from man of the match Sommers.

Cinderford Town: Ben John, Ashley Malcolm (Will Loughman 67), Matt Smith, Dan Harrison, Andy Lewis, Dale Evans (capt, Mike Whittington 74), Josh Egan, Nick Hancock, Nick McCootie, Lewis Sommers, Dean Lee (Matt Barnes 67). Subs not used: Brad Andrews, Alex Harris.
