Forest of Dean Gymnastics Club gymnasts had a day of outstanding success at the County Floor and Vault Championships, winning 10 medals.

The club’s haul of five gold, two silver and three bronze was the best of the eight competing in the event which was the first in the county for two years.

The competition, which was held at the Forest Gymnastics Centre in Berry Hill was named Dave Powell Memorial Cup in memory of Dave Powell, the founder of Rowan Gymnastics Club in Cheltenham.

The Forest club’s gold medallists were Daisy Morse, Sophia Sparrow, Sophie Colling, Rhiannon Blayney and Katie Pugh.

Sophie Colling was the highest scoring gymnast of all age groups in the Tin level while Katie Pugh was the second highest scoring gymnast at Zinc level.

The silver medallists were; Erica Hartley and Xanthe Davidson while bronze medals were won by Aoife O’Brien, Etty MIlford and Lydia Moverley.

Other apparatus podium placings were; Lily Nwosu, first in the vault.

On the floor, Izabelle Ward was second, Isla Matthews, third, Esmai Walding and Victoria Koleva fifth.

Ceira Price was fourth on vault.

Other members of the team were; Coralie Bevan, Daisy Mai Newitt and Lexie Childs.

The Forest club’s director of coaching Lynn, said: “All the Forest girls showed excellent artistry in their floor routines with one judge commenting that the girls’ floor routines were ‘stunning’.”
