LYDNEY Rugby Club has been awarded Lottery funding of £50,000 to invest in its facilities – meaning the club's infamous cold showers will soon be a thing of the past.

The money is coming from Sport England's Inspired Facilities Fund – designed to breathe new life into tired community sports facilities.

The rugby club will use the bulk of the money to replace the 40-year-old boiler and heating system.

The current system is old, unreliable and with most spare parts unobtainable was in desperate need of replacing.

The club will be putting in a green biomass system – which produces less CO2, needs less maintenance and is cheaper to run.
