RUARDEAN Hill might not be known as a footballing hotbed, but all that could change if manager Andy Coombs has his way.
The villagers pulled off a rare and notable double on Saturday by getting two teams through to County Cup finals.
Ruardean Hill Rangers beat Abbeymead Rovers 2-1 in Saturday's Senior Amateur Cup semi-final tie in Gloucester.
Nick Jayne scored both goals before getting himself sent off for elbowing an opponent off the ball.
Ruardean Hill Reserves also won through to the final of the County Intermediate Cup by beating Leonard Stanley 3-1 with goals from Ashley Lilley, Andy Coleman and Dan Reid.
First-team manager Coombs, a former Cinderford Town defender, only took charge at the club a couple of months ago, but has already been hugely impressed by what he's seen.
He said: "Broadwell were the last Forest side to get to a Senior Amateur Cup final, but I'm not sure anyone has ever got a team to that final and another County Cup as well.
"Working with these players is so enjoyable because their attitudes are right.
"Apart from a couple of older heads, all of the boys are in their teens or early 20s.
"There are some excellent footballers here, but the best of them is Luke Brown. I've managed youngsters for quite a long time but at 18 he's the best young player I've seen in the Forest in 10 years.
"I've never seen someone with so much ability work so hard, he plays with a smile, never gets frustrated and has no edge to him. He's outstanding because he's got everything."
Rangers will meet Minsterworth in the Senior Amateur Cup final. They needed a penalty shoot-out to knock out Moreton Rangers after the game ended in a 3-3 draw. Minsterworth won 5-4 on penalties.
Ruardean Hill Reserves face FC Lakeside in their County Intermediate Cup final.
Newent Town also have a County Cup final to look forward to after edging a close Junior Cup contest with rivals Milkwall on penalties.
The game ended 0-0 after 90 minutes but Newent won the shoot-out by 3-1.
They now meet Avonvale United, who beat Old Richians 4-2.
