Lydney Town 3

JARRED Liddington was suspended, Ricky Elliott injured and Shaun Stanley, Jake Morgan, Ross Scott and Ross Lindsay all unavailable for Lydney.

That didn't stop them taking the lead on five minutes through Peter Macklin.

Matt Timmins cashed in on a poor Clanfield throw-in to send Macklin away. He took the ball wide of the full-back and sent a sweet left-footer across the face of the keeper into the far corner. The visitors did not sit back and in Richard Guy they had player who caused Lydney all sorts of problems with his direct running and crossing. Fortunately for Town, Clanfield lacked that killer instinct in the box.

Timmins pulled up with a groin strain on 20 minutes and was replaced by Danny Bishop.

Five minutes later Lydney went two up. A rash challenge on Josh Davis on the halfway line resulted in a free-kick that Niall Halford drilled into the box. When keeper Simmonds hesitated Pete Macklin climbed above him to power home a header from 12 yards.

A few minutes later Danny Clarke's corner was headed back across goal by Sam Elliott and Bishop just failed to make contact inside the six-yard box.

Clanfield should have pulled one back just before the break. They broke up an attack and outnumbered Town's defence by three to one, but Olphert chose to shoot rather than pass inside and the chance went begging. The second half was quite an even affair with some robust challenges.

Clanfield pushed forward, but left themselves open to the counter attack.

It was from one of these that Lydney finally made the game safe. Pete Macklin took the ball down the left flank before cutting inside defender Simon Calley, who chopped him down. Skipper Adam Price made no mistake with the spot-kick, sending Simmonds the wrong way.
