SAM Arnott was rewarded with a win in his final home game as Lydney’s Director of Rugby

Rowan Mullis was back at prop, Pat Hanslow moved into the second row and in the backs, Joe Hamlin started at outside half. Coby Scriven made his debut as a replacement, writes Roger Pike.

Playing with the strong wind and slope in the first half a solid performance got them a 21-point lead.

The expected Sidmouth response just did not happen and Lydney proved far stronger with some spectacular rugby .

Sidmouth camped in the Lydney half for the opening encounters with some good attacks, but a lost ball saw James Bonia collect and charge up field.

An off-load to Brad Dunn on halfway saw him beat the defence to run in under the posts, Tom Broady converted for 7-0.

The hosts started to dominate with solid runs from Ben Large and Alex Nelmes but mistakes cost scoring opportunities.

The lively back row of Harvey Heaven, Kyle Frowen and Zak Williams were making solid tackles and good turnover ball.

Lydney had great chances to score with Heaven, Large and Dunn but the score remained unchanged.

Sidmouth did create chances but Hamlin, Large and the superb Danny Price nullified any moves.

Williams got a yellow card, and Tom Rowe was forced off with a shoulder injury.

With five minutes left, a break from Frowen saw the ball recycled – prop Mullis cut into the backline at speed and charge through to score, Broady converted for 14-0.

The visitors restarted deep in injury time only to see Large collect and run into the 22m area, Williams took the ball spinning to Max Turner who crossed for a converted try and 21-0 at half-time.

Lydney scored straight from the kick-off when they ran the ball back and Williams touched down in the corner for 26-0.

Pat Hanslow then left with an ankle injury and young Coby Scriven made his debut.

Lydney were still conceding penalties and Bonia picked up a yellow card.

Sidmouth then dominated for a spell and only a last tackle from Nelmes stopped a score.

From a penalty on their own line, Lydney ran the ball and Dunn made huge yards off-loading to Nelmes to score out wide with Broady converting for 33-0.

James Lane came on in the front row and Sidmouth did get a try against the 14.

The hosts then played some of their best rugby this season: a run from Price was recycled and Bonia charged forward, Williams carried and Scriven picked up to beat the last defenders. Broady converted for 40-7.

Dunn was proving unplayable but errors costs Lydney numerous scores as they dominated.

The try of the day saw Bonia and Hodge make huge ground, and the ball was spun out to Frowen and Price into the 22.

The ball again went the other way for Dunn to score, the conversion made it 47-7.

Sam Arnott said: “Pleased to end my last home league fixture with a win.
