Shelford 66

IN-FORM Shelford stormed to their sixth consecutive victory with an impressive 10-try display of pace and power.

Reeling Lydney had few answers, particularly in the second half.

It was only 26-11 at the break, but the home side blew Lydney away in the second period with six more tries.

Shelford number eight Feofaaku Lea was a constant threat, scoring two tries, with centre Peceli Nacamavuto helping himself to four tries.

Lydney were under pressure throughout, but managed a couple of touchdowns of their own in an open game.

Tony Wicks scored a first half effort, with the talented Josh Innes going over in the second period.

Wicks kicked one conversion and two penalties.

With Dave Arnott opting to play football for Broadwell and Tai Lakabuka, Craig Jones and Josh Hannam also missing, Lydney fielded a couple of 17-year-old centres in Innes and Luke Kell, as well as teenage fly-half Curtis Russell.

It made for a hugely inexperienced backs division.

Lydney skipper Jim McMahon said: "Things are pretty tough right now but the match was a lot closer than the score would suggest. We still believe we can get out of trouble and we've targeted Launceston this week as one we can win. We only lost to a last minute penalty against them at home.

"The mood in the club is still good and it's not panic stations just yet. No one is giving up."
