LYDNEY were edged out by 28 runs against a strong Frocester side at the Bob Park Cricket ground.

In ideal batting conditions, the visitors put Lydney into the field and were threatening to post a massive target as they hit seven runs an over by the 14th.

The home bowlers did reel them in so that Frocester’s eventual total was 222 all out in the Gloucestershire Cricket League Division One.

Kevin McDelling got the first wicket – on his debut – as Neil Halford took a catch for 34-1.

The next wicket fell on 103 as McDelling took a catch off Jack Knox.

Frocester then lost two quick wickets including skipper Chris Whincup who hit 73 off 58 balls.

Callum Miller caught Freddie Collinson off Jordan Stone at the start of the 20th and Whincup was caught and bowled by Knox in the next for 128-4.

That became 134-5 when Jake Bonser held a catch off Stone.

Dafydd Nicholas took a catch off Miller to break a sixth wicket stand of 67.

Ferguson had a second when Nicholas showed quick hands for a stumping and a third catch for Halford off Morris closed the innings at 221.

Knox and Ferguson combined for an opening partnership of 55 with Knox being run out for 18 including two fours.

Jake Bonser helped take the score to 76 before he was caught.

Ferguson and Nicholas added 47 for the third with Ferguson getting stumped.

He was Lydney’s high scorer with 69 including eight fours.

Lydney were 181-6 when Halford was bowled requiring 42 runs off the last five overs but the last four wickets went for just 13 runs.
