Macclesfield 19

CINDERFORD'S free-scoring backs helped the Foresters maintain their unbeaten record this season.

Bottom of the league Macclesfield, however, were far from pushovers, particularly in the first half, when they dominated possession and had the better of the forwards battle.

The visitors took the lead from a line-out catch-and-drive. Prop Martin Kent peeled off to score the simplest of tries, which Tom Eaton converted.

Cinderford hit back immediately when a knock-on fell straight into the arms of Jack Adams, who put winger Sam Caven away for a try under the posts. Mark Davies converted.

Turnover ball for the home side allowed the impressive Adams to create an opening for Lloyd Stapleton, who stepped inside his marker and raced through to score. Davies converted.

Macclesfield controlled the rest of the first half, which was generally played in the Cinderford half.

Though forced to defend for long periods, Cinderford went into the break with their 14-7 lead intact.

A three-try burst early in the second half put Cinderford firmly in control.

A Jack Adams try provided momentum, before Will Foden finished off a decent team move. Davies converted both efforts.

Rob Winchle then intercepted the ball deep inside his own half and sprinted just past halfway. Hooker Tom Bozzard was up in support and some great handling from the onrushing backs resulted in Mike Wilcox scoring in the corner.

Macclesfield kept plugging away and managed two more tries through number eight Dave Marwick and centre Elliot Brierley.

In between, Cinderford grabbed their sixth try, courtesy of a fine individual break from scrum-half Sam Arnott.

In four matches this season, Cinderford have scored a whopping 140 points.

Tellingly, they have bagged 20 tries – with the on-song backs accounting for 19 of them.
