CINDERFORD Town manager Paul Michael wants to see his side ’put right’ the damage done last season by their opponents in Saturday’s Southern League Division One South curtain raiser.

Town take on Paulton Rovers at the Causeway in their first competitive fixture of the new campaign and Michael believes the sky is the limit for his men.

Cinderford finished in a disappointing 13th place but Michael believes the squad now hold a depth of quality all over the pitch.

“We feel pre-season has gone as well as it could have,” Michael said.

“We think recruitment has gone well and the games have brought momentum.

“I think we are definitely stronger than we were last season. Alex Harris is an improvement on the goalkeeping position and we’ve improved at full-back too.

“There’s a good camaraderie in the squad and we have a lot of options up front which we hope will create competition for places and bring us more goals.

“The first game of the new season is a bit of an unknown because every side feels they’re better than last year. You never know what shape teams are really in.

“Paulton took four points off us last year as they beat us at home and we drew away and we get a chance to put that right on Saturday.

“The teams who start strongly will be the ones who are up at the very top end of the table.

“I don’t want to limit us by saying we should be aiming for the play-offs or we can only get into the play-offs.

“But we need to take it a game at a time.”

Michael also praised the work of new goalkeeping coach Ryan Mackerness and hopes former Town academy product Jordi Sheen, who trialled at the Causeway this summer, will return to the club as the season progresses.
