DIMINUTIVE playmaker Sammie Hicks has turned down interest from bigger clubs to stay at Cinderford Town.
Hicks, who was voted players’ player of the year and supporters’ player of the year at the end of the season, was one of three players who returned from the successful 2015/16 squad which won the Southern League Division One South & West title.
Hicks’ performances in the Southern League Premier last season attracted a great deal of interest from other clubs, including some higher in the pyramid.
“It’s great news to have Sammie back this season,” said manager Paul Michael.
“We felt he made such progress last season and developed as it went on.
“One-on-one he’s outstanding; very few people will get the better of him when he’s in or out of possession.
“He’s also the fittest player I’ve ever met. His ability for repeated sprints is nothing short of immense for a part-time player.
“Add to that all his technical ability and his long throw you’ve got a special player, but more than that he’s such a great guy who we think we can help to continue to make progress and get better before moving on to higher levels."
The club also teased an announcement of new signings after 12pm today on their Facebook page.
