Lydney Town.....6
Longelevens......2
DECLAN Morley-Lyne’s hat-trick helped Lydney gain revenge on county rivals Longlevens in a 6-2 midweek thrashing.
Morley-Lyne, Town’s top goalscorer on 18, helped fire the Severnside past sixth-placed ’Levens last Wednesday.
Mark Lee’s side continued their trend of scoring inside the opening ten minutes of their fixtures as Morley-Lyne latched onto a misplaced back-pass, before squaring the keeper and opening the floodgates.
Just five minutes later, Town doubled their advantage when youngster Liam Sheppard set out on a mazy run and delivered a deflected cross into the path of Pete Macklin, who duly tucked it away.
Two goals ahead and oozing confidence, Town had a pair goals ruled out for offside, however the home-side’s efforts were soon rewarded and when Macklin was brought down inside the box.
Morley-Lyne was at hand to dispatch from the spot for Town’s third.
Town looked inspired as they prepared another onslaught on the Longlevens defence and when the referee awarded the hosts a free-kick from 25 yards, dead ball specialist Jack Rutter stepped up to assist Sam Elliott, whose bullet header put Lydney Town four goals to the good after just 25 minutes.
The scoreline remained until after the break, when the visitors pulled one back five minutes into the second half when a lofted pass was picked up by Longlevens player to chip neatly over Richard Thomas in the home goal
Longlevens were back in the game and soon had a second when a poor Town clearance was fired into the top corner despite a strong hand from Thomas.
With 15 minutes left and the two sides looking fairly evenly matched, Town pulled away by adding a fifth through Sheppard, before Morley-Lyne buried from the spot to secure his hat-trick when Lewis Halford was fouled inside the area.
