SOUDLEY-born winger Luke Thomas is beginning to establish himself in Scottish Premiership football after securing consecutive starts for St Mirren following a slow start to his career north of the border.

The 27-year-old was named in the starting line-up for Saturday's 2-1 victory over Dundee, having made his first start for the Paisley club against Aberdeen the previous weekend.

It marked an encouraging development for the Forest of Dean footballer, who had largely been restricted to substitute appearances since arriving at The Marbill Coaches Stadium in August.

Thomas joined St Mirren on an initial two-year contract, with the club holding an option to extend his stay by another season.

Despite bringing considerable experience from English football, the winger initially struggled to secure regular starting opportunities.

His first start came in the 3-1 defeat at Aberdeen on October 17, when he was involved in the build-up to St Mirren's equaliser before being substituted shortly after half-time.

Thomas retained his place against Dundee on Saturday, playing the full match as St Mirren ended a five-match losing streak.

He delivered a first-half free-kick which created a headed opportunity for Calvin Ramsay, although goalkeeper Owen Goodman prevented the home side from extending their lead.

Before his recent run of starts, Thomas had recorded ten appearances and 263 minutes of playing time, illustrating his limited involvement during the opening months.

Thomas previously represented Cheltenham Town, Derby County, Coventry City, Barnsley, Ipswich Town and Bristol Rovers before moving to Scotland.

He made 158 appearances for Rovers, scoring 13 goals and providing 21 assists during his time with the club.

His recent inclusion in St Mirren's starting line-up represents a positive step as he looks to establish himself in Scotland.

Thomas will hope to retain his place in the starting line-up when St Mirren host Hibernian this evening (Wednesday, October 28).
