CINDERFORD director of rugby Paul Morris hailed his young side’s hard work in their 26-9 home loss to high-flying Chinnor but bemoaned officiating that led to two of the visitors’ tries.
Morris was unhappy with a block in the lead up to the game’s first try, scored by Tom Burns midway through the first half.
Then a high tackle on centre Robbie Winchle went unpunished, leading to a turnover before Chinnor’s Jamie Townsend touched down for the National Two South leaders’ second try.
“There was a huge amount of endeavour,” Morris said of his team immediately after the defeat.
“We worked our sides off.
“It’s a hard one to quantify; they weren’t a particularly attractive side nor were they particularly legal.
“They got a bit of luck as well. There was a clear illegal block for the first try and how that’s not seen I don’t know. You can’t take out a would-be tackler, but apparently you can.
“Our centre nearly had his chopped off with and we turned over the ball, then they went the length of the pitch to score.
“It’s difficult to take at the moment. We aren’t getting a lot of luck right now.
“We know we’ve to be better but this is a very young side and it’s a very capable side.
“They’re a great bunch to coach and manage and we’re confident we’ll get better, whether that’s in six months or 12 months.
“We had a number of teenagers in the squad today. But they were an arrogant side and clinical too.”
Morris also offered that the injury suffered by Winchle in the second half, which caused a long delay as the centre lay prone on the Dockham Road pitch, was not as serious as feared.
Winchle overcame a suspected concussion but sat out the rest of the match after going down halfway through the second half.
