MITCHELDEAN completed a first-ever double, winning two trophies in three days and gaining promotion to the Northern Senior League for the first time in nearly 20 years.
Mitch last won the North Gloucestershire League Premier Division in 1997, but had never won the JO Roberts Cup until Monday, when they defeated Coleford United 4-1 at Broadwell.
It came after a 5-0 win over Viney St Swithins secured the league title with five games to spare.
Ironically, it was Coleford who ended a two-year unbeaten run at home for Mitch earlier this season.
Long-serving manager Andre Titmuss, who has been at the helm for 16 years since taking over from club president Andre Edwards, said he was ’jubilant’ after the club’s success.
“I was confident; I knew we would do it,” he said.
“We’ve done what we set out to do and it’s been a long time coming.
“I think the squad is good enough to progress, but I didn’t do this; it was the squad.
“Alex Goode (goalkeeper/coach) helped me and we brought a few in later on in the season and they were good players who listened, and that’s what it’s all about.
“I was disappointed we lost to Coleford as I would have liked to have gone unbeaten, but we’ve got six to go and we want to try and set a record in this league.”
Club captain Martin Turner was equally delighted, adding: “We’re absolutely buzzing. It’s been a quality season and with two trophies in three days you can’t ask for more.
“After Coleford beat us at home for the first time in two years, we were out to get them today so it felt even better.”
