LAST week’s Reg Davis Cup final between Newent Town and Harrow Hill was postponed to allow time for an appeal from the side kicked out of the competition’s showcase for fielding an ineligible player.

Harrow Hill were beaten 2-0 at home by Stroud Harriers in their semi-final in September, but the Foresters were given a repreive when Harriers were adjudged to have selected a suspended player.

There will be a heavy sense of irony around the issue given Harrow Hill’s ejection from the GFA Senior Amateur Cup Final in 2014/15 for the same reason, after defeating Broadwell in the semi-final.

“Harrow Hill have been re instated in the final after Stroud Harriers were removed from the competition for a fielding an ineligible player. This was a technical breach rather than any sharp practice,” said Hill secretary Mark Boseley.

“Stroud have been sporting throughout to the point of wishing us well in the final.

“The postponement was to allow Stroud the opportunity to appeal if they wished and due process to be carried out. Also bearing in mind that this is a charity event the postponement will allow everyone time to prepare material for the programme and get ready for the final.

“Stroud have been good with us throughout and Harrow Hill have no wish to rub their bad luck in.

“If anything after our Broadwell experience the message has to be to read the relevant rule, check everything and never assume that everyone else has read the rule as well.”
