CINDERFORD Town are through to the second round of the FA Vase after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Clevedon Town at the North Somerset Community Stadium on Saturday, October 18.

The Foresters battled back from a goal down to draw 1-1 in normal time before holding their nerve from the spot, winning 4-3 on penalties to keep their cup dreams alive.

Clevedon enjoyed the better of the first half and took the lead just before the interval. A deep cross from Glen Hayer picked out Charlie Saunders, who took a touch and drove his shot low into the corner to give the hosts the advantage.

Cinderford responded superbly after the break, showing far more intent and energy. Captain Dale Evans led by example in midfield, urging his side forward as they began to dictate the tempo.

Their pressure told in the 82nd minute when a corner from the right caused chaos in the Clevedon box. Goalkeeper George Shanks-Boon pushed the ball against the crossbar, and Jaxson Hundt reacted quickest to flick the rebound over his head and into the net for a brilliant equaliser.

The closing stages grew tense, with both teams fighting for every ball. Kian Davies was booked late on for a firm challenge as the match became increasingly physical, while Evans continued to rally his teammates, ensuring Cinderford reached full-time still level.

In the penalty shootout, the Foresters showed composure and confidence, converting four of their five kicks to edge out Clevedon 4-3 sealing a memorable win on the road.

Evans was named player of the match for his leadership and tireless work in midfield, while Hundt’s late strike proved decisive once again.

Cinderford will now welcome Helston Athletic to The Causeway in the second round on Saturday, November 8, as they aim to continue their strong cup run.
