Cinderford Town 4 Dorchester Town 0

Southern League Premier Division

AN expertly executed countering plan saw Cinderford Town outpace and outthink their visitors from Dorset in the first ever Southern League Premier game in the Forest of Dean.

Three goals inside the final half an hour secured a historic win for Cinderford, although the club were made to wait for their home debut in the division after traffic in Wiltshire held up their opponents.

Kick-off was delayed by 15 minutes to 8pm, but if any ill effects were felt by the hosts they weren’t noticable.

Karnell Chambers went close just two minutes in with a curling effort that looped over the top-right corner, before Gloucester City loanee Zack Kotwica put Cinderford ahead on 24 minutes.

The winger, who tortured his man on the left-hand flank all night, frequently cut inside and on this occasion volleyed home after some slack defending.

Goalkeeper Ben Fletcher was forced into a reactionary save by Nick Crittenden on 32 minutes, but the Dorchester man was offside and it was a rare breakthrough for the away side.

Cinderford packed ten men behind the ball in two well-organised lines, preventing any clear-cut moves from their opponents.

Striker Gethyn Hill looked low on confidence for Cinderford, blazing over a great chance on 40 minutes when one-on-one following a gift from the Dorchester backline.

But the former Cardiff City youngster made amends after a similar second half miss, doubling the lead on 66 minutes when Jacob Morgan broke brilliantly and saw his shot saved, only for the ball to fall to Hill and an empty net beckoned.

Three minutes later, Hill sealed victory with a smartly taken finish that oozed composure, as he placed his effort into the bottom right corner past away keeper Shane Murphy.

Then, deep in injury time, Chambers made it four with a deft touch past the oncoming Murphy and the 210-strong attendance at the Causeway were jubilant.
