A DEVASTATING display from Cinderford Town helped them to a 6-0 win over last year’s Southern League Division One South & West bottom club in their opening fixture.
Town were on top from the very first minute to the very last. Bashley, failed to threaten Cinderford goalkeeper Alex Harris and their only real chance came after 16 minutes, when Callem Parker’s driven free-kick dragged wide off a defender and the resulting corner saw Cinderford have to block two efforts on the line.
The rare attempt on the home goal followed a frustrating fifteen minutes for Cinderford. Garyn Preen, who made his first competitive appearance at The Causeway since becoming injured last year, delivered excellent set-pieces but his teammates were unable to capitalise on his immaculate crosses.
New signing and former Aston Villa youth product Kieran Dovey should have broken the deadlock on 21 minutes but his weak effort was saved with relative ease by Bashley keeper Rob Gillet, who had made several key stops throughout the first half.
Chance after chance went begging but the engrossed home crowd could sense a goal coming before long.
The breakthrough finally came from captain Kieron Thomas who headed home another brilliant corner from Preen after 37 minutes.
