CINDERFORD Town co-manager Chris Burns says he won’t be getting ahead of himself despite a more encouraging start to pre-season than expected.

Town opened their preparation for their maiden season in the Southern League Premier on Saturday as 18 prospective players turned up at the Causeway for the team’s first pre-season training session.

“It was more than we thought we would get,” Burns said.

“I think if we had 12 or 13 we’d have been chuffed and we still have three or four to come. It looks more promising than we were expecting.

“We had three players come from Wales and they looked good but it’s up to them whether or not they decide to join with the money we can offer.

“It was a good session and I’d say realistically nine or 10 of them will be able to play the standard. Some of them are quite young.”

Among those present was Jordi Sheen of Harrow Hill, who has been on the brink of the first team for some time.

“We had him come up and he looked good, I was impressed by him,” Burns added.

“We had three or four from Gloucester, a couple from Cheltenham and a few trialists from Cardiff University too.

“It’s for those lads to step up to the standard. Some of the ground we’re going to be are great but we can’t get ahead of ourselves as it’s only the first session.”
