CINDERFORD Town manager Paul Michael has made a number of moves to strengthen his squad following confirmation on player injuries and departures.

Centre-half Danny Clare has torn his anterior cruciate ligament and has cartilage damage, a scan confirmed, while attacker Nick Harrhy has had his season ended by a long standing hip issue.

Goalkeeper Joe Perry, who runs his own business, is now unable to commit to playing in the backlog of fixtures Town have accrued over a wet and snowy winter that led to a number of postponements.

Perry will however remain registered and serve as back-up to Cameron Clarke.

In more positive news, Joe Hunt will return on loan from Newport County and brings clubmate Tom Savigar, who can play in midfield or at right-back.

James Harding, a Hartpury College forward, has also agreed terms with the Causeway club.

“All the postponements have had an impact on Joe Perry who runs his own business and he is now unable to commit to all the games we have remaining,” Michael said.

“Joe will remain registered and should we have an injury or suspension to Cameron Clarke then he will be available for us, provided he can make arrangements in work.

“Joe is still building his business and this is his livelihood so we totally respect and understand his position at the moment.

“We have also agreed with James Harding, a centre forward with Hartpury’s first team, to join until the end of the season.

“James has had a torrid couple of years with injuries but has the potential to score goals at this level no doubt.

“We are looking to add one more defensive option before the deadline and then we feel we will be set for a very busy end to the season where a good squad will be needed with so many games in a short period of time.”

The club have also launched a campaign to help raise funds for Clare, Sammie Hicks and Callam McOnie, who have also suffered similar ACL injuries this term.

Hick and Clare will require surgery while McOnie has already undergone work.

Supporters of local football are urged to donate to the cause via a GoFundMe page, while a number of fundraisers are planned at the Causeway.

A raffle will take place on Saturday March 24 with first prize two tickets to England’s international friendly against Italy on Tuesday March 27, donated by chairman Stuart Tait.

The club will also be hosting a ’donate the gate’ event whereby all gate receipts from the home match against Bishops Cleeve on Tuesday April 17 after expenses will be donated to the cause.
